We always want our pets to live forever...sadly, they don't.
                                                                Striper the Wonder Dog
                                                       September 13, 2002 - May 28,2013

We took Striper to the University of Pennsylvania Hospital this morning. They performed an ultrasound which confirmed she was bleeding internally from tumors surrounding her liver and spleen. They gave her two months at the outset. We opted for euthanasia and said our good-byes to her this afternoon. We are heartbroken.

  1. Sorry about Striper, at least he made it home. We cruise with our English Springer, Duke. We've never been on this boat without him.

    1. Hi Ron: Thank you for your condolences. Striper completed the Loop with us and we are grateful for the years we had with her. She was the sweetest little dog and a good boating companion. We are missing her so very much that it's painful. She was in the final stages of her condition, we are sad that we never knew it earlier. Thank you again.

  2. I'm so very sorry for you both. Know you are in my thoughts and prayers now and in the tough days ahead. Our pets know us in every way possible...and still love us. God bless you both.

  3. Celeste and Ralph,

Dar and I are very sorry for your loss. We know from personal experience how hard a decision that is to make. Comfort comes from knowing that the loved pet is at peace and no longer suffering. Take care of yourselves. We'll keep you in our thoughts.

Hi Darlene and Rick: Thank you for your condolences. We just never expected to have to make this decision. We thought she'd be treated and come home. Sad to learn her prognosis was only 2 months at best. It was the right decision, but it's a very sad time for us. Thank you for your kindness.

Hi Carl and Nancy: Thank you for your condolences. Striper had rallied from her first bout of illness when we met you at Great Bridge. She continued to lapse into lethargy and not eating for several days at a time all the way to NJ. We thought she had Lyme Disease, but all the tests were negative. We took her to her former vet in NJ who took an x-ray and said she thought there was a mass and that Striper possibly had an autoimmune anemia and would need a transfusion. We were shocked to learn how sick she was and to lose her was painful for sure. It was the right decision, but we are very sad. Thank you.

  5. So sad to read the news about Striper. We know first hand how painful it is to lose a pet. We lost our two dogs within six days of each other during our Loop last year. It has been over a year that they are gone and we miss them dearly.

Dear Bob and Lynda: Thank you for your condolences about Striper. We're sad to learn about your beloved dogs too. In the month of May two other Looper friends have lost pets, too. It is definitely a heartache that will take a long time to heal.
