July 11, 2012
We have now traveled
890 miles and “locked through” 72 locks.
I am profoundly sad and
droopy today. Betsy and the cherubs left
at 7:00 AM for home. Betsy called about
1:15 PM to say they were home safe and sound.
It was wonderful to share this experience with them. It’s too quiet here! I’ve been missing them all day. :( I also received a phone call that an old
friend passed away a few days ago which adds to my sadness. Rest in peace, Olga.
We are now through the
Rideau Canal and on Lake Ontario heading for the Trent-Severn Waterway portion of this adventure.
Ken and Kim Morrison, who
have a cottage near Napanee on Lake Ontario, offered us the use of their
mooring overnight and invited us to dinner.
We’d never met them. How very
thoughtful. Their cottage is beautiful
and sets high from the water and you feel like you’re in the trees. They’re a lovely couple who would like to
start the Loop next year. Dinner was
delicious and the company delightful.
What a treat to enjoy vanilla ice cream topped with their own homemade
maple syrup for dessert. We also
enjoyed one of the most beautiful
sunsets we’ve seen this entire trip.
Thank you so much, Ken and Kim!
