July 12, 2012

Contrary to what some may believe, there has not been a mutiny, murder, boat-jacking, or any other mishap at sea – just no internet connectivity where we are --  which, incidentally, is at the Lock # 6 wall in Frankford, Ontario on the Trent-Severn Waterway.   We have electricity which is nice in case we want to run the AC but, once again, no internet unless we walk into town to the library. And we don’t – we traveled 34 miles today – yesterday 56 miles. Upon arrival here in Frankford, the lockmaster gave us a lovely gift bag of goodies from Frankford – very thoughtful and informative.  The Captain is attempting to get the satellite tv working so we can find out what’s going on in the world. It’s not working well...I’ll try for a good radio station.  We haven’t heard the news in a week.

To recap our day, we were off the mooring near Napanee at 7:15 AM heading across Lake Ontario.  Several hours into the trip, the Prince Edward Island police pulled up beside us.  We stopped and they asked us where we were coming from, where we were going, and how we liked Canada.  We chatted about a half hour and were told this was just a routine stop and since we were “doing the Loop” there was no reason to board us and check for anything.  They wished is a happy journey and were on their way.

I then went below and gave Striper a much-needed bath. She is so funny after a bath – jumps all around, happy to be clean and fluffy.  We reached Trenton, Ontario around noon, which is the “Gateway to the Trent-Severn Waterway”.  We went through six locks and arrived at  Frankford, Lock # 6 at around 2:00PM.  It’s beautiful here – there is a campground and lots of campers, a small beach and about 15 minutes’ walk to town.  We’re staying here just relaxing and enjoying the beautiful day.  The temperature is in the 80s, sunny and breezy.

Striper is the recipient of many doggy treats along the way -- this one was gone before I could snap the photo

One of the worst years for pollen in Canada -- this is pollen on Lake Ontario
