The blue line indicates the zig-zag route of the Trent-Severn Waterway |
As of today, we have locked
through 93 locks and traveled 1,010 miles.
Even with the screens and
bug zappers, last night the bugs still managed to get into the boat. The bug zappers are great, but we were on bug
patrol for several hours. I finally fell
asleep and awoke at 2:00 AM looking at Ralph roaming around the boat in his skivvies with a flashlight and a
bug zapper “trying to keep the bugs off you, dear,” or so he said! AArrrrghhhh!!
I was still asleep when we
pulled away from the dock at Hastings at 7:40 AM today. It’s 74 degrees and overcast which is
actually a welcome relief from the intense sun we’ve had the past couple
weeks. We crossed Rice Lake and the
Trent River. We are now heading north in
this zig-zagging waterway.
This morning we enjoyed the
last of the luscious sticky buns I bought at Dooher’s Bakery a few days ago and
I made some potato salad for lunch and tidied up the boat. We’ve got a continual layer of pollen on
everything so there’s always dusting to do.
We arrived at Peterborough
early this afternoon and it was 86 degrees and humid. We decided to take a slip
at the Peterborough Marina. The town is
within walking distance and we picked up some produce at the No Frills grocery
store that our Canadian friend, Leah told us about, stopped at Tim Horton’s for
coffee, frozen lemonade and pastries and since the marina has laundry
facilities, I did a load of wash. We
have wifi and the follow-me tv is working well and we’re catching up on the
news. Ralph is now giving the boat
exterior a major clean up and Striper and I are enjoying sitting in the AC.
