Today we went through a total of 11 locks, including the famous Peterborough Lift Lock. Sixty-five feet high, this double hydraulic lock system carries two containers of boats simultaneously. One container goes up (the container we were in) while the other container is coming down. The whole operation took only 10 minutes and was quite interesting.
We arrived at Buckhorn, Ontario late afternoon and tied up on the town lock wall. There was no electricity or water available and it was hot. We were both tired and went to dinner at the Olde Ice House -- which years ago was the town ice house. We had a delicious pickerel dinner. The service was extremely slow, but the waitress was pleasant and the food was good and reasonably priced. They advertise free wifi, but Captain Wonderful discovered it wasn't working and when he mentioned it to the waitress she said she didn't know how it worked. She showed him their computer and he reset everything so he had internet connectivity while we waited for her dinner.
We found out the weather forecast is predicting strong winds and possible thunderstorms for tomorrow. We have a long way to go and will get an early start.

Hi Ralph,
ReplyDeleteLooks like you guys are having a great time! Busy here at the Tech Center flying High Altitude Radar project during May and June and just got back from a TCAS mission in Daytona. Going to Wake, Guam and Hawaii for 3 weeks in Aug and Sept in N47. I will continue to follow your exploits.
Regards,
John Geyser
