We're still moored at Aqua Yacht Harbor in Iuka, MS.  We awoke today to 54 degrees and spotty rain throughout the day.  We had a delicious breakfast at the Cafe St. Claire, which is on the marina grounds.  Mark and Madeline, the owners are friendly and hospitable, the restaurant is immaculately kept and the food is very good.

We borrowed the courtesy car and dropped off some mail at the post office on our way to Savannah, Tennessee -- about 14 miles from Iuka, MS.  We stopped at Jimmy's Barber Shop and Ralph got a haircut, then we went to a Wal-Mart Super Store.  I shopped for groceries (and they had the Jack Daniels Brisket) while Ralph shopped for Rotella oil -- and it was $13 a gallon, as opposed to $18 that he paid at Advance Auto somewhere along our way.   I like shopping at Wal-Mart because they have everything I'm looking for and everything is always fresh because a gazillion people shop there so the shelves are constantly being restocked.

When we returned to the marina I washed clothes in the immaculately clean laundromat on site -- $1 to wash and to dry.    Ralph and Striper hobnobbed with the boatyard staff and the restaurant owners while I sat in the sunshine outside the laundry room reading a book.

We had dinner this evening at the Cafe St. Claire which was very good and the service, again, was excellent.  They make everything from scratch (and it doesn't taste "scratchy").  Glad we took our umbrella because it began to rain again as we were heading back to the boat.   We had a very productive day.  We'd highly recommend this marina -- they have all the amenities we look for.

Not too many photos from today:

This is a 94' Horizon houseboat moored here -- the air conditioning unit on the stern (under the sliding board) is a 4-ton unit, bigger than what we had for our former home in NJ

Happy Halloween!!  Made us laugh!

  1. I have really enjoyed reading your blog. And "oh btw" that's my houseboat! Too funny to be reading a blog and see your own boat in one of the pics.

Hi Paul: It's nice to hear from you and we're happy you're enjoy the blog. That's some houseboat!! We weren't the only photo takers of it, I'm sure. It's just spectacular! Is Iuka your homeport? We so enjoyed the US river system in our travels. Beautiful scenery and friendly people everywhere. Aqua Yacht Harbor was extremely hospitable to transient guests. We used their courtesy car and laundry facilities and enjoyed several meals at the on-site restaurant. If you're ever down our way in Cape Coral, FL, give us a shout -- come for dinner!
